A little kanga-Roo

i wrote this at about week four of little roo being with us... and i'm glad i did. reading over it makes me smile.

roo joe coulson was born at 4.55 on the morning of the 31st of may 2012. he was eight pounds ten ounces of baby goodness.

i don't want to forget the last few weeks. they have been special - i have had the highest highs and some of the lowest lows. i really feel as though the times in your life that you are pushed to the extremes are the times when you are closest to god.

these are some things i don't want to forget about this tiny roo. things i know will change far too soon.

his big feet not fitting in any of his clothes
his beautiful raspberry pursed lips while sleeping
his strong neck as he searched his dads face minutes after birth
his big chubby cheeks that i can't seem to ever get enough kisses on
the floppy, sleepy, milk-drunk roo
the beautiful "oo's" and "ah's" he makes when all is right in his world
long fingers and arms stretching when he is freed from his tight cocoon wrap
those first sleepy smiles and then the first big cheesy ones at daddy
the 6am chatter. his happiest time of day
putting on weight instead of losing it out of hospital!
the frantic head-shaking search for milk
three hour long naps together in the afternoon
cuddling as his eyes grow heavy and sleepy

our little roo is beautiful. the first couple of weeks of his life are a bit of a haze to me already. we spent a lot of time up at my parents place in sydney. i am the only one of six siblings who doesn't live within 15 minutes of everyone else. timmy and i really felt the isolation from family in the first few days post birth so we travelled to be near them. roo spent most of this time feeding and sleeping. being cuddled by aunties, uncles and cousins. my little beautiful roo. so very loved already.

i have written most of the birth story and the rest will come. when it does, i'll share it with you.

33 weeks with rain on a tin roof

the day has been filled with sound.

this morning was sound of the youtube kind. first stop - flight of the concords, followed by "the voice" performances, which brought us to the doobie brothers. that's my kinda morning.

the rain is falling now, just how we like it. lots and soft. we have a tin roof and the sound is so beautiful.

today i am grateful for sound. soon we will hear our little ones first noises and it will hear the rain on the tin roof, troopers yawns and timmy playing the piano.

we attended the incredible calmbirth classes over the weekend (i'll post all about it during the week) and there we were encouraged to talk to our baby. tell it all about how excited we are to meet it, what a beautiful world we live in and how much we love it already. we have been talking to our baby the whole pregnancy but i think in these last few weeks we will be more aware of what we say and speak more often. i want this baby to know who it's mum and dad are - to recognise the sound of our voices and look up at us with big eyes that say "hey, i know you".

i can't tell you how excited i am to have our baby placed on my chest. to see timmy's eyes well up full of love. to be our family complete - for now.

31 weeks and an american apparel giveaway

so i have been a little absent on the blog for the past week. the only excuse is that i'm pregnant... i can use that right? maybe i should just tell the truth and say that i'm a bit lazy and a really good procrastinator. when i don't feel like writing, i don't write - i watch ellen or make lunch or fold washing (sometimes) or do emails or research prams etc.

having a baby really soon is just starting to become a proper reality for us. today i washed all the baby clothes and wraps and made room in the wardrobe for baby's things to be folded and put away (maybe tomorrow for that one...). those braxton hicks have been doing their job all day everyday and in just a few days we can say "our baby is due next month". wowza.

timmy is so relaxed and comfortable with the fact that he will be a dad so soon - that he already is a dad to this little one. what a blessed little baby to have timmy for a dad, to be loved by him is the best feeling in the world.

28 weeks in a riding cape with a kinfolk giveaway!

today i wore my new favourite item of clothing. a green riding cape (it also has a hood). the weather was perfect for gumboots, umbrellas, winter leggings and capes.

as the calendar flicked to a new month the weather changed with it. rain and mist cover our hills now. the blanket on the bed is pulled up high on our chilled shoulders instead of being pushed far down the end away from overheated toes.

i am welcoming this cooler weather with open arms. it makes me think of the life i lived in canada - waking to find fresh powdery snow, drifts big enough to cover our car completely. i miss it there. i'm desperate to show timmy the places that hold such a special place in my heart.

we'll take our baby there one day too. our little eskimo baby.

this week i have a copy of the best magazine in the world to giveaway - that mag is kinfolk. tim and i received our very own copy this week and i have been losing it over every single page. there is a story about a couple who travel across canada to stay in one of the places i lived called prince edward island (think anne of green gables). you all need to go there, promise.

i have a second copy of kinfolk mag that i will be gifting to one of you lucky suckers. all you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment below! the winner will be announced a week from today.

you can find out more about kinfolk here.
